UPDATE: Squeezed in between two Athens cold fronts, our Friends of Canada (FoC) ‘Happy New Year’ Canada Night warmed up many happy souls. This included the Canadian embassy’s Chargé d’affaires, Karen Krakow, her husband Jonathan, and her daughter Maya. Karen cut – and served – the vasilopita, along with FoC coordinator Kathryn Lukey-Coutsocostas. The winner of the lucky coin (flouri) for 2020 was… Canada and the Canadian embassy. The winner of flouri in the individual vasilopitas was Maria-Daniela Strati. May they all be prosperous, in every regard, in this New Year.
Following our FoC tradition, we each wrote down a New Year’s resolution. Eight lucky winners got door prizes for resolutions like ‘Be on time; be on time; and be on time, ‘I will make more free time for my family – although it’s not so easy…’ and ‘I will learn how to better manage stress and provide my mother-in-law the time to teach me laughter yoga’ (ha ha!).
Before we all left, our FoC Welfare Network (in collaboration with the Salvation Army) collected items brought by generous guests for the Salvation Army’s ‘Green Light Project’ (for the sexually exploited): baby wipes, hair conditioner and adult women’s gloves/mittens.
