UPDATE: Despite lightning, rain and hail storms throughout the day, crowds still showed up at the annual, ethnic Food-for-Good Festival by hosted by the Children's Village Filiro and the Women from Five Continents on June 2 at Plaz Aretsou, Kalamaria, Thessaloniki. Approximately forty countries ran stands, including our Canadian table, which served 141 servings of meatballs and various salads to hungry guests. (Some guests even chose to come back to our table for seconds!) The food was followed by performances of song and dance – including a Food Fest first: a dance troop came in from abroad to perform We were thrilled to watch this Austrian dance troop perform several traditional Greek dances.
This year, the Food Fest was once again under the auspices of the Children's Village Filiro (http://www.paidikoxorio.gr/web/ ), which received all of the proceeds. Approximately 1,450 tickets were sold. After expenses, this – along with 9,000 Euros from sponsors – means we all made approximately 20,000 Euros – even more than last year (19,000 Euros)!
Big thanks go to the myriad of Friends of Canada who participated:
