UPDATE: What better way to celebrate the 150th birthday of a multicultural country like Canada than a multicultural community celebration? On July 6, people from all nations gathered at the informal Friends of Canada (FoC) Canada Day celebration in Athens – in the presence of Canadian ambassador to Greece Keith Morrill and Jane Morrill.
After dining on a delicious set menu (the mushrooms sautéed in garlic and wine were especially divine), we enjoyed our annual Canada trivia quiz and wacky photo booth. This year we also had an extra treat: Canada tattoos! After the Canada Cake was cut, several door prizes were given out (and what a stampede to pick them up!).
On a serious note, hygiene products for the infants of women working in Athens Red Light district were generously donated by the guests. The donations will be distributed by the FoC Welfare Network (which collaborates with the Salvation Army (http://www.salvationarmy.gr/en-GB/%CE%B1%CE%B8%CE%B7%CE%BD%CE%B1ÂÂÂÂÂ ).
Besides several distinguished guests from academic and commercial circles, the president of Athens Accueil, Chantal Stasinopoulou, also attended our event.
