In the presence of Canadian Ambassador to Greece, Keith Morrill, and Jane Morrill
UPDATE: The Canada Cake was cut and eaten – the Canadian and Greek national anthems sung - the Canada photo booth photos taken – and the Canada trivia quiz completed – by all guests, including Canada’s amicable ambassadorial couple, Ambassador Keith and Jane Morrill, at the Friends of Canada (FoC) Informal Canada Day Celebration on July 3 in Athens.
Guests enjoyed chatting amongst themselves, then dined on a great mixed grill. They generously brought along their used summer clothing for the refugees, to be distributed by the FoC Welfare Network (which collaborates with the Salvation Army). And several guests took home door prizes!
Besides Canadian embassy counsellor (administration) & consul, Stephen El Azab, attending, many associations were represented, like Athens Accueil (Chantal Stasinopoulou, president), SEV - Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (Nadia Rontoyanni, Head of Members Unit) and International Committee of the Red Cross (George Armstrong Gray, Detention Delegate). Many distinguished business interests were also present.
FoC would like to thank the following, who made it all possible:
--VENUE. La Piazza pizzeria, Chalandri (good prices, sponsorship of ambassadorial couple’s meal, hospitality)
--DOOR PRIZES. Canadian embassy (10 gently used Canadian books) and the Morrills (3 boxes of maple sugar candies, yum!)
--VOLUNTEERS (alphabetically): Sylvie Dumont, Fran Kaltsiki, Dawn Lefakis, Christine Mela, Sophia Panagos, Polis Pantelidis, Alexandra Pel, Michael Psyllakis, Marie-Therese Rolland-Aqbarawi, Erophyli Skordili, Jeannie Tsoulogiannis, Christine Yannou and Eliza Yiannakis
--EMBASSY SUPPORT: Eleni Efstratoudakis, Julie Papanicolaou, and Zoe Delibasis
--NATIONAL ANTHEM LEADERS: Canadian by Marie-Thérèse Rolland, the facilitator of FoC Réseau Franco-Canadien/Franco-Canadian Network; and Greek by Polis Pantelidis, co-facilitator of our FoC Welfare Network.
We look forward to next year’s celebration!
