UPDATE: Like the Canadian postmen, neither sleet nor snow could prevent more than 80 brave souls from arriving at the Friends of Canada ‘Canada Night - Vasilopita Cutting’. The names of the New Year’s ‘flouri’ winners – and their personal New Year’s resolutions - were robustly read out loud by Canadian Ambassador to Greece, Robert Peck. More than two dozen winners had their names drawn; in return, guests generously donated adult disposable diapers and juice for the residents of Asylum Aniaton.

The ‘flouri’ prizes were kindly provided by: the Canadian embassy (Diana Kraal CD, book, pen, Canadian-Greek pin, box of caramels and business card case); the Pecks (jug of Vertmont maple syrup, wine and two books); Katerina Trambakou, manager, Diktion (www.yvesrocher.gr) (five Yves Rocher facials); and Sudha Nair-Iliades, publisher, Insider Athens (www.insider-magazine.gr) (ten one-year subscriptions).
Thanks also go to the many behind-the-scenes patrons and volunteers, including: Neo Elleniko restaurant (for great prices, and ambassador’s meal); Nikitas Terzis, Dawn Lefakis and Christine Mela (for nametags/decoration/photos/clean-up/etc); Kostas Vrontos (for sound/tech); Marie-Thérèse Rolland, facilitator of Friends of Canada ‘Réseau Franco-Canadien/Franco-Canadian Network’ (for organising two big tables of Francophone guests!); and Polis Pantelidis. co-facilitator of Friends of Canada ‘Welfare Network’ - which collaborates with the Salvation Army (for distributing donations).
Amongst the many guests were Robert Peck, the Canadian Ambassador to Greece, and Maria Pantazi-Peck, and Dimitris Mitakos, from Celebrity International Movers S.A. Kathryn Lukey-Coutsocostas, Friends of Canada coordinator, hopes this gave everyone a good start to a joy-filled 2015!
