UPDATE: A terrific success - if one more person had come, there would not have been enough chairs for everyone who attended Thessaloniki’s Consular Information Session & Vasilopita Cutting at Le Palace Art Hotel on February 5! The Consulate of Canada in Thessaloniki - Consul Pantelis Petmezas and consular staff Elina Zerva - in cooperation with the Hellenic Canadian Friendship Association, hosted Counsellor (Administration) & Consul of the Embassy of Canada in the Hellenic Republic, Stephen El Azab, and Consular staff, Areti Velissariou & Angela Loisos, who gave a information-packed presentation about consular services, followed by a lively Q & A. (The most popular subjects revolved around pension and Old Age Security issues.)

Afterwards, Consul Petmezas and Kathryn Lukey-Coutsocostas (Hellenic Canadian Friendship Association Coordinator) cut the vasilopita. The Canadian embassy in Greece represents Canadian interests in both Greece & Cyprus, and the two countries jointly won the lucky ‘flouri’ for 2018. As for the individual vasilopitas, the grand winner was………….. Coordinator Kathryn Lukey-Coutsocostas! While she kept the 2018 medallion, she subsequently gave away two bottles of maple syrup as spur-of-the-moment door prizes.
